Greeley Colorado Area Attractions
Greeley has many things-to-do and attractions to keep the whole family busy for many months. There are people who have lived here for years who have yet to visit all of the many Greeley area attractions. The attractions below are the major ones in the Greeley area. You will see that many of them are in the surrounding towns of Loveland, Fort Collins and Estes Park.  We also have pages of Colorado Attractions as well as National Parks and Monuments Located in Colorado.. Pawnee National Grassland. Located about 70 miles Northeast of Greeley on Colorado Highway 14. A visit to this National Grassland is like returning to the way it was in the 1860's when the first white settlers arrived here. Michener's book Centennial was based on this grassland area. Great walks,  hiking and birding. At night the stars are unreal.

The Greeley Stampede dates back to the 1800's and has a very long and rich tradition.This is Greeley Colorado's largest community celebration and was started to honor local potato farmers. The Stampede has since grown into an internationally famous festival attracting close to 450,000 people annually from all parts of the United States and several foreign countries.

Weld County Fair. This is the major agricultural event in Weld County every year. held at Island Grove Park and fairgrounds.

Rocky Mountain National Park. Located west of Estes Park. Highway 34 from Greeley west about 80 miles through Loveland and up the Big Thompson Canyon and through Estes Park. Open Year around. Trail Ridge Road, Highest continues highway in US, Open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Deer, Elk, moose, coyote, bear, cougar and big horn sheep.

Estes Park Colorado. This small village west of Loveland is considered the entrance to the Rocky Mountains. There are many events held there almost year around. Estaes Park is the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park from the east. It's downtown area is full of shopping, restaurants and some really great accommodations.

Centennial Village. Contains 32 structures showing the lifestyle, architecture and people of northeastern Colorado between 1860-1920. Also features lush gardens, programs, classes and living history demonstrations. Entrance fee.

Fort Vasquez Museum. 13412 Highway 85 south of the city of Platteville. Go back into history and visit an 1835 fur trading fort. This adobe fort and outpost employed such trappers as Baptiste Charbonneau and Jim Beckwourth both featured in the movie Centennial. The fort owners Louis Vasquez and Andrew Sublette were among the first settlers and permanent traders along the South Platte Basin.

The Budweiser Center is located just a short 15 to 25 minute drive west of Greeley. The Budweiser Events Center and Larimer County Fairgrounds which all inclusively is called the "The Ranch"

Anheuser-Busch Brewery & Clydesdale Barn. Located just off I-25 at Mountain Vista Dr.  North of Ft Collins.

 

Colorado Indoor Paint Ball. A 22 acre field with forest, sandbags, and hay bales makes up their outdoor field. Indoors they have 55,000 square feet of space. Largest facility of it's kind in a five state area. Rental equipment available.

Bison Herd and Ranch. Located at the Spomer Bison Ranch and Red Barn Bison Co. You can visit their herd and enjoy the gift shop and meat market. Calves being born are a big attraction in April and May.

Carter Lake is located southwest of Loveland against the foothills. The lake is about 50 miles west of Greeley. It can be reached form highway 34 through Loveland then South. The lake is 1,100 acre reservoir surrounded by 1,000 acres of public lands. It is a popular spot for sailing, camping, swimming and water skiing.

Gateway Park. Family fun center with emphasis on children's activities. Mini golf,  maze, Go-carts, bumper boats, batting cage, arcade and snack bar.

Big Thompson Canyon. Just a few miles west of Loveland on Highway 34 this canyon is a beautiful narrow canyon along the Big Thompson River. This canyon is the gateway to the high mountain parks. A 35 minute drive to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Fall River Road. This one way dirt road located in Rocky Mountain National Park was completed in 1921 and is the original automobile road over the mountains. This road is narrow and windy but the scenery and wildlife is awesome. National Historic road leads to the Fall River Pass Store also a National Historic Site. Open summers only. Trail Ridge Road. this modern highway is the replacement for Fall River Road. Trail Ridge Road started in 1929 and was finished in 1938 when it reached Grand Lake Colorado. It rises to 11,794 feet at Fall River Pass. It is the highest continuous highway in the US.

Poudre Canyon. West of Ft Collins is US Highway 14. A spectacular drive featuring the only wild river (no dams)  left in America the Cache La. Poudre River. Means Powder hiding place. Drive crosses the continental divide and reaches Walden Colorado. Walden has great restaurants and real good moose viewing.
